From Adam —- “I’ve heard this called “being in alignment” before. Didn’t think of it as aligning my ego with my higher power but totally makes sense. I can’t think of specifics but every time I’m kind or compassionate, I’m in alignment. On my recent trip, I always tipped 20-30%. People work hard and many service staff struggles to make ends meet.”

Step 3 of the Twelve Steps invites us to stop living from a place of struggle and control. The Basic Text teaches that when we pause and seek guidance, we break the habit of reacting from self-will. Turning our lives over to a Higher Power helps us find peace and clarity. This echoes the psychological insights of Viktor Frankl, who believed that meaning, not control, drives fulfillment. When we surrender control, we unlock our true willpower.

In Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions, it’s revealed that our problem isn’t willpower itself but its misuse. Philosopher William James noted that spiritual awakening often requires a “surrender of the will” to something greater than the self. This is not weakness, but strength rightly aimed. When aligned with purpose and values, our will becomes a force for change.

Rebecca West’s words echo this. Life becomes a noble struggle when we pursue growth, not control. Carl Jung emphasized that growth comes from integrating our inner conflict, not avoiding it. Surrender allows that integration. When we let go of self-centered control, our willpower becomes a people-powered juggernaut for good.

This approach encourages both personal healing and social transformation. It invites us to live lives that feed our souls, not our egos. We stop striving for control and start cultivating connection, meaning, and purpose. The shift is from pushing through life to participating in it with intention.

Everyday I ask Spiritual being wiser than me for guidance, and protection. After a nasty fall, and weeks of bad luck in the past at one point I just have felt that HP wasn’t there maybe or that the alignment that should be there, wasn’t there at all. I’m taking the right steps, and wanting to have wiser thoughts, intead of giving in to impulsiveness, so that should show to a degree that my HP or spiritual being of great wisdoms wants to put me on the right path.

When I stop trying to control everything, life begins to become easier in some ways and events occur as intended. I trust in the process of things and life has a purpose for me.

Trying to control everything is exhausting and unproductive. Controlling myself is much more manageable.

When I’m in the zone through prayer and meditation, and able to help others when problems arise. That’s a really good feeling, to me 🙂

In order for the alignment to happen I first turn my will over to him by saying if you want me to embark on this adventure… for example , I was invited to Arizona for a week to stay with a good friend so instead of just going on my own will without asking my higher power, I would ask my higher power if you want me to go to Arizona open the door wide, if not please slam it shut… therefore whatever the outcome is our perfect alignment…

Love. When I am in alignment with Love, then my HP and Spirituality are aligned. My HP is Love, my language is Love and I seek love which is without judgement or expectations. Pure unconditional Love.

Father’s Day is hard for me. My father and I were never close and I find that I carry a resentment about that. I would love to turn this over to my Higher Power. I intend to turn this over to my Higher Power. I intend to ask my Higher Power to unburden me of my own ego, pick up the phone, and tell my father, “Happy Father’s Day, Daddy. I love you.”
