Today’s SFZ explores the gradual, personal nature of spirituality and our deepening connection to a Higher Power. In Al-Anon Works & Why, members acknowledge that some have a strong sense of God, while others remain unsure. What matters is openness. William James, a foundational thinker in psychology and religion, argued that genuine faith often starts with experience, not certainty. People do not need to fully understand spirituality to begin a spiritual path—they only need willingness and honesty.
The Basic Text emphasizes that spirituality improves lives. It brings gratitude and meaning, especially after hardship. Viktor Frankl, a Holocaust survivor and psychiatrist, also taught that meaning helps us survive pain. In recovery, we don’t just return to normal life—we discover a better one. Spiritual growth doesn’t happen all at once. It happens little by little, as trust builds and healing continues.
James Redfield reminds us that true spirituality connects us—not just to a Higher Power, but to others. Brene Brown also links spirituality with connection and vulnerability. She believes that living spiritually means showing up with courage and openness. Recovery invites us to do just that—step into the unknown with faith that more will be revealed.
In recovery, spirituality is not about having all the answers. It is about staying open to life, to growth, and to others. Day by day, we discover more about ourselves and what truly matters.
