Analysis:

We celebrate Independence Day , in today’s SFZ, by also honoring inner freedom. The first quote from It Works, How & Why invites a brave step. It asks us to search inside for hidden feelings and patterns. Carl Jung spoke of this inner search. He called it the process of individuation. We meet our fears. We meet our resentments. Jung says we must see our shadows.

The second quote from 12 & 12 deepens this idea. It pushes us past small faults. It shows us deep flaws that shape life patterns. Viktor Frankl, in Man’s Search for Meaning, wrote about freedom. He said freedom means taking responsibility for our choices. When we see these patterns, we can break them.

The third quote comes from Henry Ward Beecher. He says life keeps weaving while we sleep. Patterns continue if we ignore them. James Baldwin, in The Fire Next Time, wrote that people must face truths to change. We must look at the loom of life.

Today’s SFZ voices tell us: look inside, see our real patterns, and choose freedom. Jung, Frankl, and Baldwin agree. True independence begins within. It does not happen once a year. It happens every day we do the work.

SFZ Quotes Translated to Spanish

(It Works, How & Why, p. 26)
– Henry Ward Beecher

Analysis Translated to Spanish

Encontramos nuestros miedos. Encontramos resentimientos.

Free from my self-doubt. It’s not that I think that I can do everything. I’m just not worried about failing. All I can do is take the next right step. What will come will come.

Well I”m not doing too much, overlooking more and more regarding my past, and am instead looking forward to a brighter future in building a stronger mind against those temptations that constantly want to pull us back in.

Liberated from passive agressive behavior. It is a personality trait that I really dislike. When I am not using, I am able to think with clarity and not respond to p/g triggers. Set boundries of what I am and will not accept in my life. I am grateful for the resolve to know the difference.

Lately I feel liberated from negative thought patterns and wondering what people think of me. Being able to share my feelings with another person is liberating for me.. to be honest with what’s going on in my life. The fact that I love being sober…

I have no new patterns I’ve discovered. I’ve been just working on the ones I know already exist. I’m trying to short-circuit negative thoughts and recognizing when I’m stressing over my house hunting or stressful driving, how to pull myself out of it.

Stressing over what might be seems to be coming up more often for me. Letting go is clearly what’s in order.

I fall in to a pattern of unhealthy or at best, useless, self talk and worrying. I sometimes withdraw from participation when it comes to group activities. Because that takes effort, commitment, and responsibility. And inevitably, stress. So in short I guess it is a protection mechanism, but I may use it a little too often.

I look outside my window to the beautiful trees that overhang my entire block and I feel like Louis Armstrong, “I think to myself, what a wonderful world.” Today I celebrate so much goodness in my life. I do not celebrate everyday. And I cannot worry about tomorrow. Today is all I have. And today I can choose to celebrate!
