“I said that I was strong,
but that was just a lie.
Outside I may seem calm,
But inside I do cry.”

SFZ Analysis in English

In Step 4, we see an urgent call for honesty and self-expression. Ansel Adams, the nature photographer, understood this. He believed everyone must reveal their true selves. In It Works, How & Why, the writers stress a deeper problem than drug use. Carl Jung wrote in Modern Man in Search of a Soul that people must face their inner chaos. Jung knew real recovery needs inner work. The quote about changing our perception connects to Ansel Adams’ idea. Both ideas trust that truth begins inside us.

Next, the 12 & 12 quote shows how hard it is to see our emotional confusion. Viktor Frankl, in Man’s Search for Meaning, argued that we must find meaning in suffering. Our erratic emotions often block that meaning. Only with time and reflection can we see ourselves clearly.

Today’s SFZ ties together through the theme of perception. Adams rejected rigid rules for creativity. The recovery literature rejects rigid thinking about sobriety. Both say we must do more than stop a habit; we must transform how we see the world. Paulo Freire in Pedagogy of the Oppressed wrote that true liberation comes through critical awareness. To break free, we must look inward, then speak outward.

Healing, art, and growth need this courage. Each voice matters. Together, they form a truer picture of our world.

Original Quotes Translated into Spanish

Necesitamos cambiar nuestra actitud.

The change is using what I know, using my faith as a cornerstone in my recovery. And that has changed everything. Instead of ignoring faith, I now embrace and rely on my spiritual life for strength and perseverance.

Recognizing that feelings aren’t facts has helped me more quickly recognize my faulty thinking. The last couple days I was in a pissy mood. I was choosing to be in a pissy mood as a result of me not getting something I wanted. The fact I didn’t get what I wanted is a fact, but that negative feeling is not a fact and I don’t have to hold on to it.

Thank you Betty Ford for having courage and being a trail blazer. The video made me cry and cry – the force of nature and waterfall like did some inner purging; and the clear blue sky to show everything will be okay. Great to know I am not responsible for making sure the world spins around – this video really put my HP back in charge. Thank you SFZ.

I’m somewhat partial to the Boy George video. He’s his own creation and a trailblazer in his own rite. I have to think that Boy and Betty would have been fast friends if they met.
