Analysis: The River of Becoming

Step eleven fuels our continuous evolution. The Language of the Heart claims this step keeps us growing. Most other steps simply maintain our baseline sobriety. We must seek a deeper connection with a Higher Power. The Basic Text reminds us that growth requires constant change. This spiritual movement prevents our recovery from becoming stagnant.

John F. Kennedy called change the law of life. Looking backward risks missing the bright future ahead. Mahatma Gandhi urged us to embody the change we seek (Gandhi, 1913). We transform our inner world to impact the outer world. Wellbriety teachings echo this sacred necessity for movement. “Change is like a river that never stops” (White Bison, 2002, p. 88). This flow carries us toward our true purpose.

Today I can create a to-do list for tomorrow so that I can have a more productive day. Having everything laid out in front of me makes it easier to see which tasks are most important.

Living with great enthusiasm and living in the present today makes each tomorrow filled with great potential. I love the saying, possible, probable, inevitable. It lays out a clear path closer to the life I dream. My actions in each step build the best next step, each moment, of each day.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

I have changed the way that I “plan” my life. I have goals and aspirations, but I allow myself to also embrace the unexpected.

I am blessed to be learning to apply gratitude to my prayer and meditation. Without gratitude I tend to become stuck, stagnant, and mired down in old stuff. When I begin to apply gratitude, I find my heart will go the place where I find relief when I need it and a sense of being full otherwise.
