Analysis: The Engine of Spiritual Joy

The Big Book offers a profound truth about our recovery. We receive a daily reprieve from our addiction. This gift depends on our current spiritual state. We must nourish this connection every single day. Spiritual growth requires constant and active effort.

Success sometimes breeds a dangerous comfort. The Basic Text warns us about spiritual complacency. Comfort can mask the need for daily maintenance. Pain often serves as a necessary wake-up call. We return to our Great Mystery for strength (White Bison, 2002). “Healing comes when we follow the laws of the Creator” (White Bison, 2002, p. 24). This renewal saves us from returning to the horror.

Denis Waitley defines happiness as an internal spiritual experience. It flows from love, grace, and gratitude. Mahatma Gandhi echoed this sentiment throughout his life (Gandhi, 1957). He believed that happiness results from harmony in thought and action. Our Higher Power fuels this inner joy. Consequently, we find peace through living with purpose. We must maintain our spiritual condition to stay free.

Denis Waitley (1933 – 2025), autor y orador motivacional estadounidense

I need to communicate more with my higher power. I am going to pray and meditate now. Sundays are a good day for me to review myself.

I’m not sure if I ever associate happiness with love, grace, or gratitude. I tend to be internally driven towards happiness, and out of experience, don’t look to be fulfilled in this sense from the outside world. However, I do recognize the importance of feeling happiness, love, gratitude in our relationships with others.

I have a co-worker who challenges my capacity to love her. I just recently learned a new acronym: TRUST (Try Really Using Step Three). Even though it seems like a real stretch to be loving in the midst of being verbally attacked, I will set some boundaries and let go and let God. Today I am grateful; today I choose joy. Namaste

I had not realized that every time I write my Gratitude List, I am choosing joy. I can really relate to the “daily reprieve” granted contingent on my spiritual awareness. As some on this website have noted, being aware of my breath, becoming aware of my gifts, learning the daily lessons helps move me into a space where I can see and feel the power of miracles every day – every moment.
