THE SOLUTION – “Timing is an essential part of this step. We should make amends when the opportunity presents itself, except when to do so will cause harm.” “We want to be free of guilt, but we don’t wish to do so at the expense of anyone else.”  (The Basic Text, p. 32)

English Analysis

Step Nine invites action with humility and careful timing. The Zonr post highlights this tension. It shows how sincere change requires courage and restraint. As William James noted in The Varieties of Religious Experience, transformation grows when intention meets disciplined action. This step reflects that principle. It asks us to follow guidance from a Higher Power while avoiding harm to others.

Moreover, the post echoes Stephen Covey’s teaching in Principle-Centered Leadership. Covey stressed that integrity requires balancing honesty with responsibility. Step Nine embodies this balance. It calls us to repair damage without creating new wounds. The Wellbriety movement reinforces this idea. It teaches: “Healing moves at the speed of trust” (Coyhis, 2010). Trust grows when we act with respect and patience.

Additionally, the message warns against rushing to relieve guilt through selfish urgency. This warning aligns with the Wellbriety reminder that “false pride blocks the path of recovery” (Coyhis, 2010). Step Nine asks us to avoid that trap. It asks us to value harmony over quick emotional relief. Meaningful amends emerge when timing combines honesty, humility, and relational awareness.

Finally, the Zonr post affirms that timing shapes outcomes. Actions guided by a Higher Power reduce harm and increase healing. They also deepen accountability. This approach strengthens recovery and restores dignity.

The timing and sequence of one event, the Eaton Canyon fire rocked my world. Long story short, my place burned down and everything that I worked hard for for the last 40 years was gone within 6 hours. After a month’s worth of couch surfing, and a friend allowing me to stay at his house until it was time to go, somebody called me out of the blue to do some painting at his sober living house. I’ve always been good with this cat so we were cool and when it was time to leave my friend’s house I literally had no place to go and was ready to spend the first night in my truck… the timing of him asking me to paint and me renting a room couldn’t have been more perfect it was God doing for me what I could not do for myself… so I am extremely grateful to this man, and especially the timing and the sequence of it all….

I can choose now to be my best self, I can make the decision daily to be free of alcohol and drugs and to just be me . I have been given an opportunity to keep this positive momentum in my life by living sober and true to my truest form of self . You can’t have different results if you don’t change up your life, I just experienced one of the biggest changes of my life by officially moving to the USA, and this fresh and beautiful opportunity to be my best self is a daily choice, yes but I’ve been offered a chance at a new more present life . The timing is now ~ and I honour this timing and will give it my absolute best shot . Thanks for being my support and new friend family here and sharing in recovery, and wellness, learning to be our best selves ~

Mindfulness takes care of timing. Being present with each thing I do removes the equation of timing. When I am conscience of my space and that which is around me, the awareness of each movement, breath, thought, is meaningful. Each interaction and conversation has depth and significance. When things become scattered or fleeting that is when I am not present and life is just happening to me. Instead, a mindful existence honors each moment as sacred, each word a prayer, all actions significant.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

I’ve noticed the timing and sequence of events when I’m at my most vulnerable, kind of turn on me, so this I must meditate on. I’m starting back with my Recovery Dharma meetings this week for sure, and with consistency where I felt like things could’ve gone differently I can control more in the future. There’s always at least a learning experience from every experience that I meditate on going differently all the time. Sometimes watching the sickness around me, and dealing with excruciating pain at that can be all too overwhelming, but it’s those positive thoughts of reinforcement I’m at least able to carry dear with me(moi).
