The Embrace – Ashana Singing Bowl Meditation

English Analysis

The passages describe the struggle against alienation and the search for authentic connection. In It Works, How & Why, the text explains how alienation decreases when people experience emotional bonds. This mirrors Martin Buber’s I and Thou, which emphasizes genuine dialogue and mutual respect. Buber believed deep relationships transform isolation into meaning.

Transitioning from isolation to sharing guilt, as 12 & 12 notes, allows inner rest and readiness for growth. Søren Kierkegaard, in The Sickness Unto Death, stressed that confession and honesty heal despair. His philosophy reminds us that truthfulness with others connects us to ourselves and to God.

Oprah Winfrey’s words about authenticity echo both thinkers. She highlights spirit-to-spirit connection as essential for human flourishing. Authentic connection requires courage, as Aristotle observed in Nicomachean Ethics. He argued that friendship rooted in virtue sustains human life with balance and meaning.

Together, these voices affirm that alienation diminishes when people embrace honesty and equality. Spiritual power emerges through humility and shared vulnerability. In that shared space, one feels embraced by something greater than self. Such love carries both healing and transformation.

(It Works, How & Why, p. 40)

I do know God isn’t for everyone, and I’ve seen fanaticism when people do somethin’ that’s not for them to the worst extent unfortunately. I do have some pagan, and monotheistic beliefs that have tremendously helped me through struggles, plus hardships. There has to be a belief in me that somehow through the roughest situations that there’s something great that can assist me through all the sicknesses that exist and want to protect me.

I feel a bond happening with my housemates little by little. When faced with a dilemma we all seem to talk about it, let it out and find a solution… and it’s a beautiful thing to see it happening… it just shows that we are all working a program to the best of our ability
And I do believe that brings us closer to God.

It is a program of rigorous honesty. Honesty starts with self and radiates out to all we interact with. So, when having a conversation with someone, if I am not willing to talk truth and engage honestly, then I am talking small little steps that can, if not caught, lead up to relapse.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

FEATURED POST FROM THE ZONR VAULT – “Oh – connection. I forgot, since I haven’t been to a meeting for awhile and don’t have a sponsor. Alarmingly, yesterday I thought it would be a good idea to get a gram of coke and bottle of brandy, and then my life would be better – thankfully it occurred to me that this was the disease at work. I have not had these thoughts in sobriety so I wasn’t sure what was happening.” (Brita, 9/16/2011)
