REMOVING “THE GROUND GLASS” –  “The moral inventory is a cool examination of the damages that occurred to us during life and a sincere effort to look at them in a true perspective. This has the effect of taking the ground glass out of us, emotional substance that still cuts and inhibits.” (As Bill Sees It, p.140)

Analysis of “Access the Power of the Now to Heal a Wounded Soul” – Step 8

The Zonr post explores emotional healing through acknowledgment and surrender. Bill W.’s metaphor of “ground glass” in As Bill Sees It reflects the lingering pain of unexamined wounds. These inner fragments, when ignored, continue to cut us emotionally. Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning teaches that suffering gains purpose when faced consciously (Frankl, 1946). Likewise, Tolle reminds us that presence dissolves the residue of pain (The Power of Now, 1997). Healing requires awareness without judgment.

Step Eight invites humility through responsibility. It demands courage to face the damage caused by false pride. A Higher Power becomes the mirror reflecting our truest motives. Black Elk’s words from The Sacred Pipe affirm, “The Power of the world always works in circles” (Brown, 1953). This circular path reminds us that harm and healing share the same sacred motion. When we forgive ourselves, we realign with that sacred rhythm.

Moreover, the Wellbriety Movement emphasizes, “Healing is remembering who you are.” The “Now” becomes the ceremonial fire where guilt transforms into wisdom. Each breath in awareness clears the emotional residue left by denial. Through mindfulness and honesty, we access divine clarity, free from old pain.

(As Bill Sees It, p. 140)

ACCEDIENDO A NUESTRO P.S.
(It Works, How & Why, pp. 64–65)

When I live in the now I see that my overall being is strengthened, and I can carry on with day in ways that are beneficial to me staying okay. The narcotics, and alcohol have tired my body, and made me less productive in comparison to if I hadn’t used at all. There is the residual pain I constantly deal with that makes it harder for me to acknowledge that I can completely stay away from harmful substances. I have to keep that I can abstain from potentially harmful substances all together. Bad, corrupt things around all of us needs to change also to make us see the changes that can become true always. A spirit of omnipotent strength is what’s needed in my life of my own understanding to tackle what wants to harm me.

A.A’s core principle is just for today. I cannot change the past and the future is uncertain so I focus on right now… today … breaking down a lifetime of problems in 24-hour intervals is possible with God and the steps. I can do something for 12 hours that would drive me crazy if I felt that I had to keep it up for a lifetime.

Every moment is an opportunity for a new beginning. The past is fixed, we do not change it. Even the greastest historical ascended master have not changed the past. For me the past is forgiveness. Mindfulness again shows that being present in the now is the divine gift to be. Clarity, understanding, communication, all thrive when I am present in the now, unconcerned about the past, not worried about the future. Focused only what is.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

It’s easy to perseverate about my own mistakes. Hell, I’ve been doing that all day. But it achieves nothing, and I’d rather enjoy my time. Amends will come, I just need to work on the now.

FEATURED POST FROM THE ZONR VAULT – “I totally relate to the necessity of ridding oneself of guilt and shame in order to move forward. In fact, much of my connection to my higher power as allowed me to do this, and I feel a newfound sense of empowerment and freedom since ridding myself of guilt. I agree with Margot – that we have a choice – whether we will live with the burden of guilt or live in a universe free of limitations. I love that idea and have been integrating it successfully in life lately.” (Peter Kalisch 11/13/20)
