In re: The Now
“It’s being here now that’s important. There’s no past and there’s no future. Time is a very misleading thing. All there is ever is the now. We can gain experience from the past, but we can’t relive it, and we can hope for the future, but we don’t know if there is one.” – George Harrison (1943 – 2001) musician & songwriter (the Beatles)
What beneficial results have you experienced lately from living in the now, one day at a time?
Yesterday – The Beatles (2:25)
Thich Nhat Hanh Surrender to The Now (1:28)
Meditating on Emptiness 4 point Analysis (13:11)
Now
by Robert Browning, 1812 – 1889
Out of your whole life give but a moment!
All of your life that has gone before,
All to come after it,—so you ignore,
So you make perfect the present,—condense,
In a rapture of rage, for perfection’s endowment,
Thought and feeling and soul and sense—
Merged in a moment which gives me at last
You around me for once, you beneath me, above me—
Me—sure that despite of time future, time past,—
This tick of our life-time’s one moment you love me!
How long such suspension may linger? Ah, Sweet—
The moment eternal—just that and no more—
When ecstasy’s utmost we clutch at the core
While cheeks burn, arms open, eyes shut and lips meet!
I worry less, simple as that. I don’t have to think about tomorrow which is great.
Its strange, to me, how some people seem so intent, and present when they are talking. That’s something I have a huge problem with. They seem to have the gift of the now. Great actors do it. That’s a muscle I definitely need to work.
just an unasked for tip (from acting class): if you put all your attention on the person talking you will be in the present; listen.
Meisner? i did that and LOVE it!!! thanks!
sometimes its very very difficult to live in the now..the past keeps coming up, can be very challenging to deal with.. 10th steps are in order i should say. a daily reprieve as it says in the big book, not yesterdays reprieve not tomorrows reprieve. but today..
I can only be effective NOW. worrying is a waste of time.
