How has your own “cockiness” played a role in causing you pain, lately?

OR

Why do you think people need both God’s help and their own effort to grow?

Dreams – Fleetwood Mac (4:18)

Classical Indian Healing Raga & Meditation (4:12)

English Analysis

Today’s Zonr post reflects on humility, forgiveness, and cooperation with spiritual guidance. In The Basic Text, the “red light indicator” shows danger in pride. Cockiness blinds people to reality. Søren Kierkegaard stressed the danger of despair when people deny their need for God. Likewise, Carl Jung taught that arrogance prevents true transformation. Both thinkers highlight the trap of self-sufficiency.

The text stresses that pride isolates people. It shows that recovery requires surrender, not dominance. When things worsen, the program provides support and accountability. This recalls Jung’s belief that grace requires openness. He saw cooperation with the unconscious as essential. Pride blocks this vital cooperation.

In 12 and 12, forgiveness depends on action. Grace flows, but people must participate. Martin Buber, in I and Thou, described authentic relation with the Divine. He taught that relationship requires mutual responsibility. The passage reflects this idea. Forgiveness is not automatic. Instead, people must work with God or their Higher Power.

Finally, Stella Terrill Mann notes God’s dream cannot happen without human effort. Her words echo Aristotle’s belief in virtue through practice. A person must cooperate with higher aims. Faith without works is incomplete. These ideas align across traditions: transformation requires humility, cooperation, and action.

The passages show a harmony between grace and responsibility. They remind us that change requires both surrender and effort.

God bless those people who can do it alone I sure can’t. I put God first before everything and then I have to do the footwork faith without works is dead. I’m extremely blessed to have a Guiding Light that I can trust he never lets me down it may not be the outcome that I want but when he’s driving the car I’ll get to the destination

With my HP’s grace and through the actions that I take, growth happens. First comes awareness, admitting I have a problem is half the battle, as the saying goes. If the awareness does not take root in me, I won’t be aware of the need. So I am grateful to my HP for showing me that which I do not see. That awareness can easily come through someone showing me, which is a divine gift. Now that I am aware, the actions to change and correct come through me taking action.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

I sometimes acknowledge that I am in trouble and have the presence of mind to consciously ask my Higher Power for help. When I am deep in the mix I may not get my head above water long enough to realize that I can pray. I am working on just being aware enough to stop and just breathe.

Brita & JB jr, thanks so much for your comments. I struggle with those exact same issues. It is so comforting to know that others are living in Recovery with some of my questions and fears. Thanks again.

How to ask for help is tricky for me. Particularly when it comes to other people. But even with my HP I want to make sure my intention is not just to be lazy but to have come to the realization I am over my head.

Re: cooperate with Higher Power: I am always struggling to know what is my part to do, and what to give up to my Higher Power to do. I guess that is the Serenity prayer exactly.
