Analysis (English)

Step 7 invites humility, not shame. It reminds us to let go of harsh self-judgment. False pride keeps us in pain. It demands perfection. It rejects help. In Man’s Search for Meaning, Viktor Frankl (2006) writes that people find strength through deeper purpose. Step 7 helps us find that purpose through surrender to a Higher Power.

We often believe we must repair ourselves with willpower. That belief drains our spirit. The Big Book reminds us to ask for guidance and then trust that guidance. Carl Jung (1961) taught that deep healing begins with honest surrender of the ego. When we relax, we hear our inner wisdom more clearly. Nature supports this stillness. Thoreau urged simple presence. He believed silence holds healing.

The Wellbriety movement teaches, “Healing comes when we move from the head to the heart” (Coyhis, 2019). In the heart, we stop attacking ourselves. We remember that recovery takes compassion. We grow when we practice patience and willingness. Step 7 is not a punishment. It is a path to freedom. It teaches us to receive help without shame.

Análisis (Español)

El Paso 7 invita a la humildad, no a la vergüenza. Nos recuerda dejar el juicio duro hacia uno mismo. La falsa soberbia nos mantiene en dolor. Exige perfección. Rechaza ayuda. En El hombre en busca de sentido, Viktor Frankl (2006) explica que encontramos fuerza mediante un propósito profundo. El Paso 7 ayuda a encontrar ese propósito a través de la entrega a un Poder Superior.

Muchas veces creemos que debemos repararnos con pura fuerza de voluntad. Esa creencia agota el espíritu. El Libro Grande nos recuerda pedir guía y luego confiar en ella. Carl Jung (1961) enseñó que la sanación profunda comienza cuando el ego se rinde con honestidad. Cuando descansamos, escuchamos mejor nuestra sabiduría interna. La naturaleza apoya esta quietud. Thoreau defendía la simplicidad. Creía que el silencio sana.

    Worry. It is a down payment on a bill I may never have. Long ago I realized how much my mom worried about everything and especially things she had no control over. Then, guess what, I realized that was me also. It is a trait I definitely inherited from her. As I work on healing and become closed to mindfulness, the worry is greatly diminished.

    Trusting that everything is the way it is supposed to be, for whatever lesson, helps me to reduce the worry and enjoy the moment.

    Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

    I find that my life improves when I act as if I believe in god. It’s hard sometimes because faith in a higher power doesn’t come naturally to me. I am can be cynical and feel skeptical of things that I can physically prove. I have been getting better though and I am grateful for that

    It is very important for me not to let life’s troubles overwhelm me. The song lyrics by The Eagles Take It Easy is a good example of that
    I have a choice I can deal with life’s troubles sober and not let them overwhelm me or I can deal with life’s troubles drunk and have them become mountains of obstacles… the most important thing for me to do is before I begin my day I ask God to direct my thinking and remove any self-pity or self-seeking motives…
