English Analysis

In The Basic Text, we learn that progress, not perfection, defines human growth. The quote reminds us to pray, act, and let our Higher Power handle outcomes. This echoes Stephen Covey’s principle from The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: focus on what you can control, not what you can’t (Covey, 1989). Through humility, we act without attachment to results. False pride tells us we must control everything, yet humility frees us to learn and grow.

The Big Book reinforces this by teaching that faith without action remains hollow (Alcoholics Anonymous, 2001). Viktor Frankl wrote in Man’s Search for Meaning that we find purpose not by grasping results, but by responding bravely to life’s demands (Frankl, 1959). Similarly, the Bhagavad Gita urges us to act with devotion, not expectation. This detachment does not mean apathy; it means trust. It means our Higher Power works through our willingness, not our control.

Wellbriety teachings remind us that “we are responsible for the effort, not the outcome” (Coyhis, 2006). Each action becomes a prayer in motion. When we release results, we gain spiritual balance. When we surrender false pride, we grow in love, patience, and peace.

(The Basic Text, p. 31)

(The Big Book, p. 76)

How can I trust my higher power more, and stop worryin’ about what comes next?
I can trust my great spiritual guides by not thinkin’ change isn’t possible, and I’ll forever be stuck in a rut. Any good time I have right now in abstainin’ is good for moi(me). Plus look at all I do. I go to school, and am active with my case managers. When bad occurrences do occur I’m just so fortunate my mind isn’t dwindlin’ or gone like sadistic other people. Sometimes people get stuck in old habits like when they were in deep active addiction. That’s why I’m blessed to have my sanity, and know how important it is to keep sanity, especially in front of other people wantin’ the same. Wow, I look at others and wonder if their minds will ever come back from the bad drugs they did. Imagine disrespectin’ people too, and feelin’ all high and mighty after usin’ bad drugs. My great spirit knows my heart is pure so always protects me(moi) from somethin’ like that. I’ll never, because I’m shote let anyone walk all over me(moi). I’ll always stand my ground, my great spiritual advisers teach me(moi) that too. To have sanity right now in my life is such a great blessin’ from above.
