“Far more indispensable than food for the physical body is spiritual nourishment for the soul. One can do without food for a considerable time, but a man of the spirit cannot exist for a single second without spiritual nourishment.” – Mohandas Gandhi (1869 – 1948) India Independence Movement Leader from British rule (on prayer and meditation)

Analysis: The Essential Breath of the Soul

The Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions links meditation to physical survival. We treat spiritual discipline like eating or sleeping. Constant effort builds a bridge to our Higher Power. Without this work, our inner world starves. Consequently, we must feed our souls every single day. The It Works, How & Why text compares prayer to sunshine. Our emotions wither without this essential light.

Mohandas Gandhi believed spiritual food sustains the human heart. One cannot exist for a second without such grace. Similarly, the Dalai Lama emphasizes the value of a quiet mind (Dalai Lama, 1999). He suggests that inner peace creates outer harmony. Wellbriety wisdom also highlights this deep connection. “Daily meditation helps us walk the Red Road with clarity” (White Bison, 2002, p. 145). We find balance through this sacred silence.

Self-discipline transforms our recovery into a vibrant reality. We stop chasing chaos and start seeking peace. This practice provides the support our intuitions need. We breathe in the spirit of life itself.

POR QUÉ ES COMO EL AIRE QUE RESPIRAMOS – PASO 11

O TAL VEZ FRIJOLES CARITA Y 40 GUIÑOS –

Daily prayer and journaling is building a relationship with my higher power. Building a grateful and thank full connection to my higher power calms me. The calm I gain in spirit becomes the calm I have throughout every part of my life.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Before I take on the day I asked God to direct my thinking. I lay Everything At His Feet and he guides the way. It’s like I’m a boat and God is the river and I let his current take me.. sometimes it’s a gentle ride and sometimes it’s a rough ride with rocks in the way but I am aware of him guiding me through every situation in life… he is my inner strength

I need to pray more. I allow the world to get me down. Spiritual growth is not that far away. I just need to seek it out.

Gandhi, clearly a man who would fast for weeks at a time, clearly knows from whence he speak.I see a man of the Spirit as being someone deeply connected with their emotions and and intentions. the greater the connection, the greater the spiritual serenity one may experience. (17)

Daily practices that facilitate attunement aren’t excessive, if kept to the degree which is healthy. In regards to Gandhi’s “man of the spirit” I think he is talking about those of us, both men and women, who really are working toward and have achieved some level of physical, psychological, emotional, and spiritual self-environment awareness.
