Analysis: The Strength of Surrender

The It Works, How & Why text reveals a profound spiritual mystery. True strength begins with admitting our deep powerlessness. We find a limitless resource by surrendering our fractured will. This act connects us to the Great Mystery. Paradoxes often define the path to lasting recovery.

The Big Book encourages us to lean on a Higher Power. Society often views spirituality as a sign of weakness. However, this dependence builds an unshakable inner foundation. Mother Teresa speaks of loving until the pain fades away. She writes that loving through the pain removes the hurt (Teresa, 1975, p. 114). Such devotion transforms our suffering into a bridge for others.

Viktor Frankl explored finding meaning through surrender. He observed that humans possess an inner freedom (Frankl, 1959, p. 66). Wellbriety teachings mirror this ancient and sacred wisdom. “The laws of nature are the laws of the Creator” (White Bison, 2002, p. 25). We heal when we align with these natural rhythms. This alignment grants us the courage to change.

When I have doubts or beliefs that I can’t accomplish something or finish what I started out to do, I remind myself that I never have to be alone in my struggles. My Higher Power will always be along for the journey. By tapping into my Higher Power, I am able to do things with great strength, and a deeper care and understanding of myself.

I’m finding it hard to socialize and make friends out in the public, I think from a long history of rejection and abuse. It’s really helpful for me to be introduced to others

My spiritual journey is strengthened by my Reliance on Jesus’s Grace rather than myself self-sufficiency.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a huge source of strength for me. When I am struggling I know I can lean on the fellowship. Currently I’m anticipating having to get surgery, and I have trust in the program of Alcoholics Anonymous to help me through that potentially difficult process.

1 quality which I find to be a double edged sword is my persistence. it helps me too delve deeper into the truth of what I’m seeking. Often times it simply annoys people.

I write in this space for myself; and to share my thoughts with others. I own no wisdom. I own no answers. I am guided on this journey – I am directed along my path. I find that only in learning more about myself am I able to learn more about the world around me. Today I thank my Higher Power for this journey, these lessons, this clarity and consciousness. Today I am grateful.

Good morning everyone + Happy Thursday. Here is today’s thought. Paradox’s. Seems kind of odd. You have to give it away to have more. But it’s true. Another paradox is turning your greatest defeat into your greatest asset. Until I could see my alcoholism as my greatest asset, I could not be available to help other alcoholics battle their addiction. Embrace your weakness + make it your greatest asset. Blessings. BB

I’ve been buoyed by the Occupy Love campaign. As a statement, a directive, a call to arms, it reminds me to occupy love in my heart no matter how hard that may seem at the time.

I take comfort in knowing that my Higher Power is mine, and mine alone. I can share with others but only upon request. It was in the struggle to find my Higher Power that I began to clarify what this whole concept means to me. I found that my Higher Power lives within me. No need to look for outside confirmation or validation – no signs, no conditions – just a deep, abiding faith that I am loved and I move in concert with the Universe.
