SOMETIMES, ONE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH – “Narcotics Anonymous offers only one promise and that is freedom from active addiction, the solution that eluded us for so ‘long. We will be freed from our self-made prisons.” (The Basic Text, p. 106)
CALLING UP THE CALVARY -“We will suddenly realize that God [or our H.P.]* is doing for us what we could not do for ourselves. Are these extravagant promises? We think not.” “They will always materialize if we work for them.” (The Big Book, p. 84)

How has one or more of ‘the promises’ been fulfilled in your life, lately?
Valentine
by Carol Ann Duffy
Not a red rose or a satin heart.
I give you an onion.
It is a moon wrapped in brown paper.
It promises light
like the careful undressing of love.
Here.
It will blind you with tears
like a lover.
It will make your reflection
a wobbling photo of grief.
I am trying to be truthful.
Not a cute card or a kissogram.
I give you an onion.
Its fierce kiss will stay on your lips,
possessive and faithful
as we are,
for as long as we are.
Take it.
Its platinum loops shrink to a wedding-ring,
if you like.
Lethal.
Its scent will cling to your fingers,
cling to your knife.
Sometimes God does do for me when i do for myself ..does that make sense?
Almost daily, when things don’t go exactly has I planned I find relief once I realize that “God is doing for me what I can’t do for myself.”
“self made prisons” – that’s a for sure – it’s what happens when I don’t go to meetings and I am a walking stress machine. Thank Goodness for Stress Free Zones!!!!
Hey! How come we’re back on Step 8? Hadn’t we gotten to Step 9? Does this mean I accidentally left some people off my list in the prior Step? Guess I better go back, review my list, and work on becoming willing to make amends to them ALL.
