(on being a Champion)
NURSE, STETHOSCOPE PLEASE –
“Self-examination … and owning up to our wrongs are critical elements of conducting our lives on a spiritual basis. By working the Tenth Step, we become more aware of our emotions, our mental state, and our spiritual condition.” (It Works, How & Why, p. 69)
A CHAMPION DISCARDS YESTERDAY’S BAGGAGE –
“For the wise have always known that no one can make much of his life until self-searching becomes a regular habit, until he is able to admit and accept what he finds, and until he patiently and persistently tries to correct what is wrong.” (12 & 12, p. 88)
“I think self-
awareness is pro-
bably the most impor-
tant thing towards be-
ing a champion.”

What ways have you tried to “correct what is wrong”, lately?
“Shut the Door on Yesterday”
by Vivian Yeiser Laramore
I have shut the door on yesterday,
Its sorrows and mistakes.
I have locked within its gloomy walls
Past failures and mistakes.
And now I throw the key away,
[A]nd seek another room.
And furnish it with hope and smiles,
And every spring-time bloom.
No thought shall enter this abode
That has a taint of pain.
And envy, malice, and distrust
Shall never entrance gain.
I have shut the door on yesterday
And thrown the key away.
Tomorrow holds no fear for me,
Since I have found today.
I find that I am endlessly innovative. Solutions that seem a bit out of the box I am now trusting more to see them through.
I tried to asend yesterday. But what is yesterday but today’s present. I try to change the things around me. Keep in constant flux. But progressing.
It’s easier for me to find negative things about myself. That being said … I don’t think I judge people as much as I used to.
I’m afraid…..
I have discovered I can be overly self-deprecating, even reflexively so.
Self examination in a sane way – I can only do this with meetings and program – otherwise I beat myself mercilessly.
