Little habits make big changes. I think it’s like the old adage that to move a mountain you have to first move a stone. Sometimes just improving our daily habits, like hygiene or exercise or creativity, ends up becoming a daily ritual of removing stones from the mountain. Before we even realize it, the mountain has shrunk greatly. At least, that is the way for me.

I think when I set out to accomplish different tasks in life, and make appointments it makes me want to practice good habits, so that I know I’ll get them done. Doin’ sports all my life in my younger years, and stayin’ mentally plus physically fit helps me to build a lot of endurance. In abstinence, endurance to stay away from harmful substances is so important. People go out on the hustle and bustle everyday to leave another behind and compete for resources at times, somethin’ I’ve never liked to do in life by the way although I did excel at sports. When I got on the treadmill, and did 3 miles in a half cardio non-stop it made me realize of course I can accomplish 5 miles non-stop. I plan to do this week as a goal. Settin’ goals, even simple ones have been such accomplishments, and a relief when dealin’ with not wantin’ to put substances I no longer want in my body.

Running into people I’ve known from previous living situations has been wonderful and terrible. I’m glad to see folks doing well, and upset to learn about people who didn’t make it. There isn’t any ‘shifting focus’ onto the positive for me, as such. I t doesn’t help me to ignore loss. But I focus on people who I can help, which in part resolves that feeling of helplessness.

The good behaviors become habits and help me push old patterns and bad habits out. We all have the same 24 hours and how we invest our time is in direct relation to what we achieve and solve in life. This can be a hard pill to swallow at times as we realize that the responsibility is solely on each of us. Yet, it is in reality the most liberating of truths knowing that we can change our path and move in the direction we want to go.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Not a lot. Just not drinking and still going to meetings. Waiting for the holidays to be over and get my life back in to a regular rhythm so I don’t feel so anxious.

I am learning that saying something (anything) is impossible sets it up to be just that. Sometimes what I say is impossible is simply something I do not want to do; or it means that I am unwilling to ask for help in seeking a solution.

Tonite’s speaker runs a recovery outfit and threw a refrigerator down the stairs. That prolly doesn’t qualify as constructive behavior. Her solution was to pause before actions. Sounds simple enug. And its something I need to do more often next time I try to beat red lights on the streets.
