Analysis: The Engine of Outward Action

Morning light invites us to seek a Higher Power. The Big Book suggests asking for guidance daily. We focus on those still suffering. This outward focus fuels our personal growth. It Works, How & Why encourages making a difference. We move beyond ourselves to find true freedom. Such service acts as a spiritual engine.

Mahatma Gandhi believed service reveals our true nature. Gandhi (1948) said finding oneself requires losing oneself in service. Similarly, The Red Road to Wellbriety honors this sacred path. “The Great Spirit gave us a gift to share” (White Bison, 2002, p. 142). Mahalia Jackson reminds us to pray through every obstacle. Her faith mirrors the strength of a quiet mind. We remove stumbling blocks by helping our brothers. Compassion transforms every morning into a new beginning.

CITANDO A MAHALIA JACKSON –

I find that I can help someone by being a solid active listener when they need to share how they’re feeling. To listen without judgement.

I can help with chores, for example cleaning someone’s dishes. I can get my roommates glasses of water, or things like this. Sometimes it is the little things that make the difference in someone’s day

The measurement for me is a slow process that happens through participation in meetings, groups talking to my friends in the program one on one and trusting my higher power in every situation…

Continuing to grow in confidence that I can be spiritual, talk about my higher power and express my faith without fear or concern over judgement. For me, early in recovery, I was shy about many things, still steeped in guilt and shame for the past. With each day forward, I gain in confidence of the direction I am moving now and the certainty in which spirit is leading me in all my affairs.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Something drew me here. Some times your higher power asked you to do what you love to do. You need to listen.

I remind myself in the mornings…or on a daily basis how important it is that I have another day to make life matter. That keeps me pretty much on the even keel, even when my limits are being tested. (5)

Ah, Payday! Another day when my Higher Power has provided for me. I did the footwork – I got to work every day – and tried to make sure that I did my part. Just for today, I am warm, dry and uncrowded. Today I am grateful. Today I intend to do my part. Namaste.

Joshua Fit the Battle at Jehrico is one of my favorite videos here. There something uplifting I get from the joy and determination I feel in the song.

I like knowing that powerless does not mean helpless. As I try to hear the voice of my Higher Power in all that I do, I know I shall be cared for – and that I can extend a helping hand to those in need. How do I know who’s in need? I don’t. I have to rely on the silence – the silence into which my Higher Power will always speak.
