Analysis: The Harvest of Grace

Grief often visits our lives. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions reveals deeper meaning within suffering. A Higher Power shapes these difficult seasons. New lessons emerge from heavy trials. We grow through every sorrow.

Hard work yields sweet rewards. The Basic Text celebrates the harvest of love. This labor bears fruit in due time. Mother Teresa reminded us about constant compassion (Teresa, 1997). She taught that love remains always within reach. Every soul can offer this gift.

Thich Nhat Hanh viewed mindful living as a sacred harvest (Hanh, 1991). He believed patience transforms our inner landscape. Wellbriety teachings echo this timeless truth. “We harvest peace when we plant seeds of kindness” (White Bison, 2002, p. 140). This journey takes steady dedication. Grace crowns our daily efforts.

I’ve only had room for literally labor lately. But there’s always time for Zander. There’s love in caring that’s not labor at all. Not all love is easy. But some of it is.

I think sometimes pain feels like it will last a lifetime, and it’s hard to see past its horizon. All the more reason to understand it is a season, and persevere through it. There’s some light at the end of the tunnel and probably more (different) pain. I had a friend once tell me: the deeper sorrow has carved the more room there is for joy, and I think that sums it up best for me.

I think my non-profit endeavors, and tryin’ to see communities flourish has been laborious loves I practice. I think the lessons I’m learnin’ from pain is that it comes, and goes. I do meetings for pain, and advocate hard for remedies to end pain in my life as well.

As of today I would say my labor of love is helping friends and neighbors who suffered loss from the Eaton Canyon fire to get back on their feet. The beautiful thing about it is I’ve been receiving help as well as giving it away. But none of this would be happening if I wouldn’t put in the labor it takes to stay sober and that labor is a labor of love doing what is suggested in the program, along with the new Zonr readings to get my day started in the right positive direction…

My labor of love is centered on my education right now. Adding University level skills and knowledge to my on the job experience. This is a healthy labor as it keeps my intellect engaged and opens my mind to new ways of thinking. On this day where we celebrate Labor I am reminded how the fruits of our toil are evident far beyond when we do finish them.

What’s made this a labor of love is the people with whom I’m sharing this process. A synergy has developed creating a work of art far superior to what anyone of us conceived of from the outset.
