Analysis: The Mirror of Truth

We must face our internal shadows. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions lists major human failings. These defects block our spiritual growth. We identify them to gain clarity. Honest inventory reveals our true nature. A Higher Power guides this brave process.

Acceptance transforms our messy history. It Works: How and Why encourages steady self-reflection. We acknowledge both flaws and strengths. Confucius praised the beauty of a flawed diamond. Perfection remains an impossible, wearying goal. We embrace our messy humanity instead.

Wellbriety teachings offer wisdom for this journey. “We heal by speaking our truth” (White Bison, 2002, p. 45). Brené Brown also highlights the power of vulnerability (Brown, 2012). She argues that flaws actually build connection. Vulnerability creates a bridge to others. We release old shame through this work. Peace arrives when we stop hiding. Every day offers fresh light for our souls.

Confucio (551 a.C. – 479 a.C.)

Análisis

Debemos enfrentar nuestras sombras internas.

Gender biases, or gender placements that don’t necessarily fit me have lately even more lately made me(moi) feel like I’m a diamond in the rough. I like jewelry too, such as diamonds too, and this makes me want to eventually buy one, besides the gleaming crystals I already own.

I am a work in progress, with flaws under construction.

A dandelion is frequently dismissed as a common weed but Confucius said everything has Beauty but not everyone sees it…my higher power says,
Charm is deceptive and Beauty fades but a person who honors God is to be praised

I do feel much like a diamond in the rough at times, because my life has been very rough. The Confucius quote means to me that even though I haven’t perfected everything, my imperfections can still be beautiful, and allow for good growth. I think learning through my mistakes makes me feel better, and keeping that abstinent mind always from harmful things.

Shine on, you crazy diamond. I may have flaws, yet I shine in many ways. I may have imperfections, yet I sparkle and dazzle in my own unique way. And as I make progress, I do not chase imperfection that isn’t attainable or necessary. I am a human being, not perfecting.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

“Better a diamond with a flaw than a pebble without.” It is what we are that matters more than our flaws which are superficial.

For me, sloth is more mental than physical. Physically being unable to start or complete a task is not about “lazy.” Rather it is about doing the mental work to figure out why I am unable to move. Is it anemia? Depression? Fear? There is always a reason. I know myself well enough to believe that when I find the cause of the inertia, I can seek help to get into motion. Help from my Higher Power and others.
