 Analysis: Healing the Inner Fire

Anger acts like a slow poison. 12 & 12 calls rage a dangerous luxury. We cannot afford such emotional instability. Constant resentment digs a hole in the gut. These old patterns trap our weary spirits. A Higher Power offers a way out. We choose freedom instead of suffering.

Self-reflection helps us navigate difficult moments. The Basic Text urges us to ask hard questions. We identify our fears with honesty. Seneca noted that uncontrolled rage hurts the sender. He believed our reactions cause more damage than events. Wise people restrain these fiery impulses.

Wellbriety teachings guide our healing process. “We must release the anger to find our center” (White Bison, 2002, p. 142). Thich Nhat Hanh taught the art of mindful breathing (Hanh, 1991). He believed calm replaces the storms of rage. We build a life of peace through small choices. Every breath invites the presence of the Creator. We let go of the past today.

Lucius Annaeus Seneca (3 a.C. – 65 d.C.)

No podemos permitirnos tal inestabilidad emocional.

I prefer like I’ve said before to be caring, peaceful/Zen like. Being upset is never no fun, but there’s ways of each other that can make us not understand, then the upset behavior starts. There’s sicknesses in our societies at times too I can’ t understand, but just being slow to that upset behavior can get me so far. The other problem is when we’re upset that seems like it’s the only time people take us serious. Being at peace with kindness to all is always going to be a preference of mine though over being upset.

In the moments of anger and rage there are two tools that are effective for me. One if delay, count to 10, and the second is to laugh at myself. These gifts dispel my rage.

I’ve used meditation and staying away from people, places, and things at the current moment. People can really push other’s buttons at times with their sickness. I haven’t met sickness like I’ve met till the most recent years. The people I’ve come across seem really sick, and this can make me very elevated in temper, and being upset. To deal with this I draw in, meditate, and think of positivities.

The big book of A.A has a great paragraph regarding anger. It says if we were to live we had to be free of anger the Grouch and the brainstorm were not for us they may be the dubious luxury of normal men but for alcoholics these are poison if we were to live we had to be free of anger.

Laughter. When anger and rage show their head, one of my go to skills is humor, find the absurdity in the situation and laugh. A good belly laugh is incredibly healing and dispels the anger and rage and minimizes the impact.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Wow. This topic really hit this morning. I just got off the phone with a client who is driving me crazy and trying my patience to the extreme. She called to let me know that she did not appreciate the way I spoke to her last night. Apparently, I lost my cool and I raised my voice to her. I was not prepared to own my side of the street when she called this morning so I just let her vent and I tried not to fan the flames by responding. However, in my mind I was thinking I just wish she would “shut the **ck up and fire me. I would gladly quit but I need the fee right now so I know I have to make amends otherwise it will grow worse like a cancer and then I will do something that I really regret.
