Analysis: The Path of Persistence

Recovery demands steady courage. It Works: How and Why builds a strong spiritual foundation. Tools from early steps guide our ongoing journey. Commitment and perseverance fuel our work on Step Six. We face our faults without holding back.

Honesty shapes this transformation. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions praises persistent effort. Willingness helps us chip away at old habits. Plutarch noted that small efforts conquer hard trials. Step by step, heavy burdens yield to grace. A Higher Power strengthens our resolve daily.

Seneca championed this steady endurance (Seneca, 2015). He believed lasting change requires patience and time. Wellbriety teachings echo this timeless wisdom. “We heal our spirits by facing truth gently” (White Bison, 2002, p. 81). Each small victory restores our inner balance. We keep walking toward the light.

INTÉNTALO Y VUELVE A INTENTARLO –

I’ve been facing adversity most of my adult life because of my belief in my higher power… I focus on the hope and eternal Promises of my God… and lately I’ve been hanging out more with my fellow believers which has really lifted my spirits…

Everyday presents challenges. I am building skills and have tools that help me overcome them. It starts with asking to do the will of my Higher Power.

Managing my time, my jobs, my energy has been challenging. The COL in LA is insane, 90-95% of my budget is for rent, and it seems like no amount of work is enough. The challenge is to be hopeful instead of grudging (and trudging). Simmering resentment stinks up the air- it rarely turns into useful action.

I live with disabilities, and this gets hard to deal with, but still I strive to overcome this, and find resources, also opportunities.

I think adversity is important to go through as it builds up our stress resistance which is so important. The ability to thrive even in stressful situations improves overall quality of life by having fortitude and equanimity in the eye of the storm. Really helps with sobriety.

Overcoming adversity… setting goals and confronting situations instead of running from them. Strengthen the good Pride to gain self-confidence… try to view the challenges as an opportunity to grow.

Rose colored glasses. That is how people fresh from treatment are often described. Certainly that was how I saw the world after leaving treatment this last time. That I had it figured out and would immediately succeed at whatever I chose to do. I was wrong, the struggles continued, many still do. I had to be broken down a bit more before I could start to heal.

Since leaving treatment in March, I have faced some of the biggest challenges and adversity in my life, bigger than while using and before entering treatment.

Just getting clean/sober isn’t enough nor a promise of easy street. The adversity continues, yet with each day it is easier to overcome. I remind myself, don’t give up, keep going, be patient, trust in my higher power, and stay positive.

My life is better being clean/sober. Make no mistake. And with each day my life has the potential to improve as well.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

FEATURED POST FROM THE ZONR VAULT – “The only adversity is caused by my work. On path to having to fire someone right after Christmas which is sad. At least its not before. And stress. Outside work it seems like doors opening everywhere for me. Which creates other stress in a way. So just doing what I have to and trying not to take anything else on.” (Adam 12/6/2012)
