A person starring into the a dark sky filled with stars at dusk w/ sfz title

“How he does cherish the thought that man, risen so majestically from a single cell in the primordial ooze, is the spearhead of evolution and therefore the only god that his universe knows! Must he renounce all this to save himself?” (12 & 12, p.25 on the darkness)

Analysis: The Myth of Self

Humanity clings tightly to ancient ego. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions challenges this grand illusion. We imagine ourselves as cosmic rulers. Yet, true growth demands humility instead. Letting go saves our weary souls. Wisdom begins when we abandon arrogance.

Darkness blinds every seeker of truth. It Works: How and Why illuminates this hard reality. Surrender shatters the heavy chains of denial. A single ray pierces through the gloom. Higher Power guides our steps toward dawn. Awakening brings profound inner healing.

Bernard Bailey mocked our inflated self-importance. People hate discovering smaller cosmic roles. Carl Jung similarly observed our desperate need for meaning (Jung, 1964). Egotism collapses under genuine self-examination. Wellbriety teachings echo this vital lesson. “Humility heals the wounded spirit” (White Bison, 2002, p. 112). Letting go unlocks lasting peace.

(It Works, How & Why, p. 83)

BERNARD BAILEY –

It Works: How and Why ilumina esta dura realidad.

Everytime I experience an A-Ha moment, it is a God shot, a moment of clarity from my higher power.

I’ve had to wrench a helpful interpretation from that page of the 12&12. But there is light from enjoying the simple things in the present, despite how desperate and pressing the future is.

I like to watch Pale Blue Dot when I’m feeling down. Something about the majesty and preciousness of life despite the humbling nature of the video always gets to me. Like so small and insignificant and yet entirely special and meaningful all at once. Makes me want to treasure my life more.

As much as I do like dark colors, and good darkness, I have to say I do like my rays of light too. My rays of light are social, and experience the injustices that loom over all of us, as we come across people who undergo spouts of psychosis at times. My ray of light purifies me, and warns me, that’s also when I can use my anti-social darknesses to coincide with my rays of light also. I want “O Great Spirit”, saints or any other elevated being to assist me in spiritually, and mentally reaching the points where I want to get to, with a lot of protection too.

The rays of light are the people I live with, who truly care about my well being and I hope to be of equal value to each in return. Also the educational journey I am on, a path of enlightenment. Truly the rays of light are ever present and illuminate the path. When I am well, when we are well, each of us shines a light far brighter than we may see on our. own. However the light each of us shines, radiates outward so that those around us can see.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

There’s so many rays of sunshine beaming down at a group of people that I’m with right now in Altadena. The group consists of people who have lost everything such as myself and others have lost some things and there’s another group of people whose homes did not burn but they came home to they’re home being looted while they were evacuated. The point is we are all there for each other some pass out food some help financially and some help by getting their hands dirty like myself and helping people move back into their home… it feels so good to help another person… so the Rays of sunshine are beaming down all around us

There is a mechanic who I have been trying to be clearer with. And now I’m starting to understand his way of looking at things which is making our communication much smoother. I’m trying to listen more intently and not worry about my agenda so much. Something I know I need to do a better job at.

I have thought up until this Step, that I would only have to surrender a little – I’ll just hand over some small stuff to my Higher Power, but I’ll handle the rest. Now I see that it is complete and total surrender to a Power greater than myself. To stand naked before my Higher Power and hand over e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g; that is a lot to require. I pray for the humility to let go and let God.
