“The Serenity Prayer, to me, is the most beautiful prayer and poem ever written. It keeps me out of so much trouble. It is small enough not to slip into my pocket or purse, but to slip into my heart. I carry it with me and pull it out whenever I detect I am in trouble. I am learning to pull it out in times of gratitude as well: ‘God, thank you for granting me…’
Namaste” (From Margot E. Zonr Post)

Analysis: The Quiet Power of Prayer

Humility shapes our spiritual connection. It Works: How and Why reminds us that prayer takes many forms. Simple, honest words bridge our inner darkness with hope. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions offers the beloved Serenity Prayer for guidance. We seek peace to accept unchangeable realities.

Spiritual tools unlock profound individual awakening. James Redfield highlights prayer power as a tool for global change. Similarly, Mahatma Gandhi observed, “Prayer is not an asking. It is a longing of the soul” (Gandhi, 1948, p. 14). Faith invites a Higher Power into daily struggles. Through Wellbriety principles, quiet communion opens channels for healing. “Creator, help me walk with strength and humility today” (White Bison, 2002, p. 142). Authentic devotion lifts us into higher awareness. Change begins quietly within our hearts.

— James Redfield (1950 – ), autor espiritual estadounidense

I don’t really know how you can tell, if I am being honest. My take is that people aren’t trying to social climb but instead are being genuine with each other. At least if the question is how is a group different when popularity isn’t the main goal but happiness is. Maybe then honesty is a key to a group functioning in a way that transcends selfishness and provides foundation for building happiness

How can you tell when a group makes choices from honesty instead of popularity?

    One word : Vulnerability ????

When open honest conversation and vulnerability occurs in a group conversation or meeting, people can finally clearly see each other for who they truly are, the mask is lifted as we take off our own and let ourselves be seen . In these moments of vulnerability or sharing of ones self, people are able to see each other with a lense of compassion and empathy . It than can change the climate of energy and communication, and decision making together for the better 🙂

Mindfulness teaches to be present. Being present is to be in prayer, to “be still and know that I am God.” The ritual of clasping hands, being on bent knee, whatever physical expression of prayer a person wishes to take, that ritual is to ground us in being present. The prayer itself is personal, it starts inside of us in being mindful of our conversation with our higher power.

With this understanding, I am in prayer more each day. Learning to give thanks, being present and working to be less reactionary at any moment. These choices take time and discipline. Yet when I am present and reflective of how the world is unfolding in front of me and my responses to it, the prayer of being present, the prayer of being reflective in answering this single question: “What is my part in this.” The weight is lifted, and clarity is received so that I, through prayer, can be more aware of behaviors to cut out and behaviors to grow.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

The question ‘how can you tell if a group makes a decision out of honesty and not popularity’ is incredibly interesting.

It’s impossible for anyone to make a literally unbiased decision. We can account for our biases, but it’s dishonest to pretend that they don’t exist. Additionally, the popularity of a stance or persona -the perception or that subject- is a large part of how people come to honestly believe.

Individuals can make decisions based on internal truths and external realities. Both of those things inform the other. I think it’s largely inevitable that group consensus comes from some kind of popularity contest.

We can only hope that, as individual actors, everyone acts the way they truly think is right. I believe most people act that way. The concern is actually how people come to believe what they think is right. And people bet on popularity, name recognition, and compelling rhetoric much more than anything else.

Even with my religious trauma and wariness about god/spirituality (although ive found those two to be quite different) the serenity prayer has stuck to me.Its found me in my lowest moments like an unexpected refreshing breeze. In my addiction i tried to manipulate every aspect of my life and the world around me, ive learned such thinking only brings constant disappointment. I agree with the author, this is possibly the most powerful piece of spiritual wisdom i have ever heard. Today I am grieving, not a death, but the loss of a person who my world revolved around, who my future was pinned to. I cannot change the way they feel or the future lost, but surrendering and letting my higher power work through me is a great solace. I can change how i react, how i accept the way others treat me. I am sober, grounded and trusting in my higher power. as long as i keep this simple prayer in mind things will work out.
