AND REACH FOR THE STARS – “There is no model of the recovering addict. When the drugs go and the addict works the program, wonderful things happen. Lost dreams awaken and new possibilities arise. Our willingness to grow spiritually keeps us buoyant.” (The Basic Text, p.91)
“If we fall, we don’t need self-recrimination or blame or anger – we need a reawakening of our intention and a willingness to recommit, to be wholehearted once again.”

How do you awaken your spirit and open your eyes to new possibilities, lately?
The Awakening
by James Weldon Johnson, 1871 – 1938
I dreamed that I was a rose
That grew beside a lonely way,
Close by a path none ever chose,
And there I lingered day by day.
Beneath the sunshine and the show’r
I grew and waited there apart,
Gathering perfume hour by hour,
And storing it within my heart,
Yet, never knew,
Just why I waited there and grew.
I dreamed that you were a bee
That one day gaily flew along,
You came across the hedge to me,
And sang a soft, love-burdened song.
You brushed my petals with a kiss,
I woke to gladness with a start,
And yielded up to you in bliss
The treasured fragrance of my heart;
And then I knew
That I had waited there for you.
I must continue to grow spiritually or I’m moving backwards. While spirituality has not been my strongest link I’m willing and open minded to growth.
I was reminded by my sponsor tonite that doing a living amends, even if it doesn’t directly apply to the person I feel I owe one to can be quite powerful when a personal amends is not readily available.
Sadly, some of those to whom I owe an amends have made the transition out of the body. I can write them a letter, go to their grave site, read the letter to them, bring flowers as a tribute. But a whole lot of folks are still alive. That some have died is a reminder to “be impeccable to my word” and to presume good will – always.
