John Donne’s – No Man is an Island Self-obsession Meditation (9:45)

Analysis of the Zonr Post ????️

John Donne’s famous line sets the stage. “No man is an Island, entire of itself.” Spiritual growth rarely happens in isolation. The post wisely links to Step 9 principles. Tolerance truly makes us more helpful to others. The Big Book notes that respect for others’ views is useful. We move past being self-obsessed individuals. This shift allows for genuine connection.

Our mistaken feeling of uniqueness suddenly disappears. We finally see that others also struggle with pain. Healing begins in the presence of another. A glimpse of ourselves in another person’s eyes can start this process. Wellbriety teaches that we share a common journey. They state, “We are all walking each other home” (The Wellbriety Movement). Ram Dass, another world-renowned thought leader, spoke often about service. He emphasized compassion as the key to moving beyond the ego. False pride can prevent this vital identification. True connection shows our equality in the Higher Power’s sight. The path to wellness becomes shared, not solitary. This understanding fuels our ongoing recovery.

Building meaningful connections with others is what reminds me what, and who, I’m doing this for.

When I go to meetings, my interactions are about being a part of something for the betterment of me, and to listen to other people’s wise words. A lone time is definitely essential, but if I’m going to be a part of something what better than meetings at times. Living in this household lets me(moi) know that others are on the same page as me in wanting to get rid of substances, or stay away from substances that aren’t necessarily beneficial for the body, and mind. My birthday celebration was the best, because there wasn’t any alcohol, or other substances involved, and I had it here at the Art House, with others that live here too.

The interactions I’ve made with people in the rooms and abroad are an integral part of my recovery. Through our differences there is one common bond that we share, and that is key in helping me live with who I am in recovery comfortably…

Being social, at meetings, at home, even online, can help to strengthen connections. This includes our home movie night on Friday’s. While only on our second week, there is some excitement about us gathering together to watch a show as a group. As we build our social connections, our walls come down, empathy grows and our ability to recognize others in ourselves and ourselves in others becomes more present.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

I am part of a bigger picture. Im not unique just another human being with problems and the need to grow up and deal with life. The spirit of the universe makes that possible for me everyday in order to not drink or use or obsesse. I have to constantly watch how i can be helpful to those around me and not wrong anyone else. Which is incredibly hard when im a selfish self-centered prick but God makes that possible for me when i allow Him.

I really like the line from the BB,
“Our very lives … depend upon our constant thought of others and how we may help meet their needs.”

The NA quote implies that “healing” or recovery comes from identifying with others but the BB makes it super clear that we won’t survive unless we drop our self-centeredness and are “constant” in our consideration of others.

And do what we can can to help them.
