Analysis: Opening the Inner Well

Stagnant beliefs block our spiritual flow. The Big Book invites us to challenge old definitions. We must define our own Higher Power. This search liberates us from past constraints. Growth demands an open, curious mind. We replace doubt with personal discovery.

Resentment often colors our view of spiritual language. The Basic Text validates these initial reactions. New members often feel repelled by traditional terms. We break these mental chains through honest seeking. Our addiction created a deep, internal hell. Now, a healing source offers a way out.

Henry David Thoreau urged us to shed all prejudices. He believed fresh eyes reveal deeper truths (Thoreau, 1854). Wellbriety teachings support this ongoing mental expansion. “We release the past to embrace the sacred present” (White Bison, 2002, p. 101). Life improves when we release rigid ideas. The soul thrives in a state of flow. We trust the process of uncovering our own truth.

An Unfounded belief that I have is, a new thing that I may want to try might not be part of the plan or path that I’ve set up for myself. But often times when I do try something new, I find it connects to the rest of the web I’ve developed.

The Higher Power I was once angry with never existed. A higher power of my own choosing today is the God of Love who supports and encourages everything that I do.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

I have trouble using other people’s idea of a HP. Tolerance is easy, but I must define HP in a way that works for me. Sponsors are great.

While producing a documentary on spirituality, a person we were interviewing said “People should go and make peace with the religion of their youth” in another interview it was said “The god you are angry with, does not exist”

Both of these were powerful examples about how the things from reglion that may have diminished our youthful love of our Higher Power was not god, it was people. And we are all flawed.

My Higher Power, while I know exists, I do not know in a way that unravels the mystery of my Higher Power and ultimately answers all questions that I may have. I have made peace with not knowing that while here, on this earth, during the great gift of Energy and Matter conjoined. I know, that I will remember my Higher Power, without a single question when my time here is complete.

For me first it was the I’m in control mode. And then it was why God did you make me like this blaming him for creating a crazed alcoholic. But both of those experiences brought me to where I am now. Knowing that I am not in control of people places and things, and that I have a choice in which path to take. Today I choose to stay on the path of sound of mine living in sobriety none of this could have happened without God’s intervention

My prejudices of my higher power are anything Christian-based and are inextricably linked to modern Christian thinking. I do not agree with much of it. So this makes it extremely difficult to navigate terminology such as faith, God, and prayer. But I have to define what these mean for me and often use different terms that do not have the same connotations for me.

Some times I have to remind myself that my higher power is not trying to punish me when things go wrong. In my heart, I really do feel my HP loves me and would never cause me harm.

I want to say “Happy Birthday” to my beloved son. He and my daughter have taught me more about love than I ever knew existed. Kind of like the prayer of St. Francis of Assisi, it is in loving that we are loved. Happy birthday, son. Please know that you are loved beyond measure.
