Love arrives and in its train come ecstasies old memories of pleasure ancient histories of pain.  Yet if we are bold, love strikes away the chains of fear from our souls.” Excerpt from Maya Angelou’s poem Touched by an Angel

Analysis: The Shift in Perspective

Transformation reshapes our entire horizon. The Basic Text promises a radical attitude shift. Self-pity vanishes as healing takes root. We abandon selfish pursuits for genuine connection. A Higher Power guides this quiet awakening. Self-seeking habits simply slip away.

Recovery dissolves our old isolation. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions redefines our daily interactions. We discover unique gifts in every person. Fear dissolves through meaningful human contact. Henry David Thoreau valued this deeper perception (Thoreau, 1854). He recognized lasting truth beneath fleeting shadows. We embrace this profound shift with courage.

Wellbriety teachings echo this spiritual awakening. “We walk together toward the light” (White Bison, 2002, p. 88). Compassion anchors our new outlook. Kindness bridges the gaps between us. Life feels rich and deeply connected. Every single moment offers renewed hope.

I don’t think I’ve quite lost the fear. My assaults have made me pretty skittish still to most touch, and I’m definitely not the hugger that I used to be. But, I do like me some pets of a pet. Makes me feel a bit better and reminds me that I did like touch and in someway still do.

All life is a gift and I am grateful for every person in my life. The blessings that people bring to me and that I hope to share with all. It is a choice for me to see friends and not enemies.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

If I’m insecure and I compare myself to somebody’s skillset I can view them as a threat.
Being content and comfortable with who I am and in my skin I can view people as gifts. If I humble myself then I am always willing to learn from what somebody can teach me

I’m open and make my self aware and available to connect. In was I never thought about, however I do also try ways that didn’t work for me in the past out of a familiarity. My experience with doing that has not been true for me…
