The Cure for Loneliness and Escape from old Hatreds and Despair – Step 7

WELCOME HOME TO THE MEETING WOMB –  “Life will take on new meaning. To watch people recover, to see them help others, to watch loneliness vanish, to see a fellowship grow up about you, to have a host of friends – this is an experience you must not miss.” (The Big Book, p. 89)

SELF-LOVE LEADS TO OCEANS OF FELLOWSHIP TO WADE IN –

“This is our road to spiritual growth. We change every day. We gradually and carefully pull ourselves out of the isolation and loneliness of addiction and into the mainstream of life. This growth is not the result of wishing, but of action and prayer.” (The Basic Text, p. 37)

“The worst loneliness is not to be comfortable with yourself.”  Mark Twain (1835 – 1910) U.S. novelist/satirist

What are the things that make you feel like you belong in your own spiritual community, lately?

Sonnet 29

by Wm. Shakespear

When in disgrace with fortune and men’s eyes
I all alone beweep my outcast state,
And trouble deaf heaven with my bootless cries,
And look upon myself, and curse my fate,
Wishing me like to one more rich in hope,
Featured like him, like him with friends possessed,
Desiring this man’s art, and that man’s scope,
With what I most enjoy contented least;
Yet in these thoughts my self almost despising,
Haply I think on thee, and then my state,
Like to the lark at break of day arising
From sullen earth, sings hymns at heaven’s gate;
For thy sweet love remembered such wealth brings
That then I scorn to change my state with kings.

    I am still a work in progress. I do not have to be the life of the party. I am okay even if I sit quietly, talk to a friend, and just luxuriate in the magnificence of what my Higher Power has wrought.

    I”ve been so busy with returning to work efforts I totly missed your zeed here.

    I look at myself as a liberal (among other things) but its only my identification with those in recovery that fully fills the void. I didn’t realize I would ever feel that way. Feel like I really belong.

    If I were comfortable with myself I would not isolate. Yet it is only in being around others that I learn that I am ok and learn to be comfortable with myself.
