The Last Lifelines Left Before Filing a Chapter 11 for the Soul – Step 12

“I was spiritually bankrupt, and when that happens, it’s like a spiritual cancer afflicts you.” – Mel Gibson (1956 – ) Australian actor / director

Today’s SFZ

APPRAISING OUR FAILINGS & BEING SPIRITUALLY BANKRUPT – “Many of us dreaded the process of self-appraisal … .” “Though we were afraid, we went forward.” “Once our inventory was completed, we no longer needed convincing. In the process, we had experienced spiritual growth for ourselves. Our spirits were strengthened by our emerging integrity.”  (It Works, How & Why, p. 83)

What does being “spiritually bankrupt” mean to you?

Moving Water

by Jelaluddin Rumi (13th Century Persian Poet)

When you do things from your soul, you feel a river
moving in you, a joy.

When actions come from another section, the feeling
disappears. Don’t let

others lead you. They may be blind or, worse, vultures.
Reach for the rope

of God. And what is that? Putting aside self-will.
Because of willfulness

people sit in jail, the trapped bird’s wings are tied,
fish sizzle in the skillet.

The anger of police is willfulness. You’ve seen a magistrate
inflict visible punishment. Now

see the invisible. If you could leave your selfishness, you
would see how you’ve

been torturing your soul. We are born and live inside black water in a well.

How could we know what an open field of sunlight is? Don’t
insist on going where

you think you want to go. Ask the way to the spring. Your
living pieces will form

a harmony. There is a moving palace that floats in the air
with balconies and clear

water flowing through, infinity everywhere, yet contained
under a single tent.

Good morning + Happy Friday everyone. Here is today’s thought. A man + his son were on a hiking trip in Ireland. It started to rain hard + the wind became fierce. They were very wet, very tired, + very lost. They took shelter + happened across 2 more hikers. The two new hikers gave them warm tea + rest. They produced a new map to help the father + his son find their way.

Lots of folks have maps they are willing to share, if we will only have the courage to stop + ask. Is that pack you’re carrying getting heavy yet? (Forward Day By Day) Blessings. BB

I’ve had to experience minor rejection on the dating front and for a moment it felt icky. But I have so much good in my life now that those moments were fleeting at best. Cuz I’m just onto the next great thing that’s making me feel fulfilled.

One day I felt so tired. Tired in body and tired in spirit. Someone told me that is what older people used to call “weary.” Feeling beat down and unable to do anything but crawl into bed. When I neglect my self-care (body) and isolate (spirit), it is hard for me to remember my Program – let alone work my Program. Today, I pray to use my Program tools and recognize I can make little changes in myself and in the world.
