A Synchronized Epic New Year’s Explosion (1:46)

François de la Rochefoucauld – Philosophy (5:53)

Analysis: The Alchemical Habit of Step Ten

Step Ten demands daily focus. We must maintain our spiritual health. It Works, How and Why questions the need for relentless self-search. However, old habits often hide in the shadows. We release false pride through honest admission.

Wisdom requires a regular habit of self-searching. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions links progress to this persistent effort. Marcus Aurelius practiced similar self-reflection in his Meditations. He believed the soul takes the color of its thoughts (Aurelius, 2002). Wellbriety leaders also stress this inner check. “The Red Road requires daily self-correction” (White Bison, 2002, p. 78). This practice keeps our connection to the Higher Power clear.

François de la Rochefoucauld warns against concealing our flaws. Honesty serves as the ultimate remedy for the spirit. We embrace our humanity with courage. Success in the New Year begins within.

Step 4: Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself. This demands an honesty with yourself that can shake the core of your very existence. Questions like, “How did I get here? What am I fighting for? How do I grow?” force you to examine every thought choice and action that leads you to this point. They require you to accept full responsibility for your life. It calls on you to review what you’ve been taught vs. what you’ve learned, how you’ve applied the lessons, and whether the application is effective. That is not an easy task. Just answering those types of questions honestly shatters the ego completely. And that is a challenge when the world has already decided who you are.

Prayer and meditation are becoming larger parts of how I navigate life. When I am thankful, grateful and repentant, my higher power guides me in ways I am still learning to see. Yet the results and successes are in my higher powers corner.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Meditation and prayer are good spiritual tools that I use to guard against making mistakes again.
Putting on the armor of God that it talks about in Ephesians 6… getting out there in the community and talking with people who are in the same recovery boat are all spiritual tools that I use to prevent from making the same mistakes

I use spiritual tools like awareness and self awareness to take a pause. Most predicaments don’t call for immediate reaction, it calls for situational assessment and self awareness in order to give the proper response. Context matters. Having this type of information helps you make the best decision(s) for yourself according to the circumstance. Failing to do so opens you up to repeat the lessons. Knowledge of self is a key to understanding the energies around you.

FEATURED POST FROM THE ZONR VAULT – “The new year17′ is here and what a nice time to reflect upon the steps, in particular, speaking on step 10. I often get pangs of agnostic angst. It’s only after sitting in a meeting, probably participating, that I feel grounded ‘spiritually’ as a human being . One who gets to listen and be heard. Life is difficult as an addict. I can create a blanket with my feelings which takes me out of commission. Realization that I don’t have a self powered cure and the only recourse is heading to meetings and working with the people there. That realization is my spiritual gift today, which I receive today and I give to others. I receive access to leading a sober life. Recovering from my addictions doesn’t happen all by myself alone.” (Orig. post Gillian, 01/02/2017)

The gift of companionship on New Years day felt very warm. And like Aquaman, I will try to aim for the highest goals cuz to settle inevitably leads to regrets for not even having tried.

I’ve been blessed with the Spiritual gift of friendship lately. 3 of us spent the day playing badminton and seeing the movie Fences. I think much has been repaired with the one friend which felt like we were drifting away from one another.

Wow! A new day, a new month, a new year. I woke up this morning – thank you, Higher Power – for giving me a new chance, a new opportunity to grow and learn. I used to wonder why my Higher Power didn’t just give up on me; why my Higher Power did not just throw in the towel, “Good riddance!” I thought my Higher Power would say. But that is not the voice of my Higher Power. That is my own internal voice that judges and condemns. In Step 10 I learn how to learn; how to make amends and keep on stepping. I might feel like giving up, but my Higher Power never will. Namaste.
