“THE MOST IMPORTANT THING … IS THAT THEY WORK” –

“Our program is
a set of principles
written so simply that
we can follow them in our
daily lives. The most im
portant thing about
them is that they
work.” (The Basic
Text, p. 9)

Analysis: The Simple Path of Daily Living

Spiritual growth starts in the mundane corners of our lives. The Basic Text presents simple rules for daily living. These tools actually work when we use them. However, many people struggle to bridge the gap.

The Big Book emphasizes that recovery is a way of life. We must carry these values into our homes and jobs. Sobriety serves only as a starting point for true change. Alfred Adler noted that living principles is the hardest task.

Viktor Frankl echoed this sentiment through his work. He taught that our response to life creates meaning (Frankl, 1946). A Higher Power provides the strength for this daily walk. Wellbriety teachings connect these concepts to the natural world.

“Principles are not something we use just for ourselves” (White Bison, 2002, p. 143). We find peace by serving the community and our families. This path requires humble action rather than loud debates. Living well becomes a silent prayer to the Great Spirit. True success grows through a series of small, honest steps.

Lately, I’ve had to practice acceptance because there’s just too many things I can’t control in my life and I need to accept that and reroute with the things I can control. So far so good!

The tried and true ones for me are gratitude, acceptance, and service…. it’s a good day when I’m practicing those three

Prayer, it is the foundation of my spiritual principals. To engage actively with my higher power through prayer, giving thanks, being still and listening. Expressing gratitude and asking for clarity of God’s will.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

Tried and true, the first thing that comes to mind is prayer. Something chnaged this year for me. I no longer ask God for anything, I thank God for everything. Something going write, thank you God, something is challenging, thank you God, something that I want, thank you God, something that I have, thank you God.

In the past, I would ask God for healing, for something to go a certain way, for some job I wanted, for someone I know going through a hardship, etc. Now, I simply thank God. We are complete, our earth is complete, God didn’t strand us here without, God created a place for us to live, to thrive, to experience everything that can be experienced.

Thank you, God. I am grateful.

Keep it simple. Don’t hold on to things I can’t control. Or, more accurately for me, don’t try to control anything unless I have to. Does it matter if something is out of place or not perfect? And maybe something that appears flawed and needs fixing is perfect just the way it is. Just smile and let the world flow through me. If I don’t provide resistance, there is nothing to fight. These are what I strive for daily.
