NO NEED TO KNOW IT ALL RIGHT NOW – “In realizing that we don’t have all the answers, we begin to find some humility. We may not grasp the full impact of what being humble means, but our open-mindedness assures us that we have found and have begun to demonstrate this valuable quality.” (It Works, How & Why, p. 16)

Analysis: The Architecture of Trust

The soul often yearns for a hidden map. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions illuminates this deep desire. It speaks of a glimpse into a secure destiny. This vision comforts us during times of heavy doubt. We find solace in the hands of a Higher Power. Our small efforts to do right build a lasting sanctuary.

Humility serves as the foundation for our transformation. It Works: How and Why celebrates the power of not knowing. We discard the heavy burden of having every answer. Stanley Schmidt warns us about the danger of false certainty. Life provides big surprises to those with open hearts. These moments shatter our illusions and invite real change.

Ralph Waldo Emerson viewed life as a series of lessons (Emerson, 1860). He believed a secret law guides every human footstep. Such wisdom echoes through the forest of Wellbriety traditions. “We must trust the Great Spirit’s plan for us” (White Bison, 2002, p. 24). This trust replaces fear with a quiet, steady hope. A grand new life begins with one humble breath.

(12 y 12, p. 98)

Stanley Schmidt (1944 – )

Letting go of the things I can’t control is how I make it through many days. This week has been a prime example. There have been things that were out side of my control and could really affect what I am doing. Remaining calm, praying and not escalating emotions made it possible to get through the challenge with serenity.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

My Religion is a lifelong journey of learning not possessing all knowledge but trusting in God rather than relying on my own limited understanding…

When I stay humble, it puts me in a place to remember that there is so much more behind the scenes when it comes to the grand design. When I am in doubt of my path, keeping an open mind will bring opportunities that I never knew possible.

Perhaps the greatest gift I have even give to myself is the acknowledgement that “I know that I don’t know”. The unbearable weight of assuming that one must or even can know everything will only lead to a life less explored.

I know that I don’t know, yet I am curious to learn, to explore to listen and grow.

Throughout my life, I have had the honor to know and learn from people that regardless of their past achievements or accomplishments, yearned to be involved and learn new things. Regardless of age, they strived to add to their experiences and humility every day until their last breathe.

It is reflected in my actions right now, going back to university. Striving to reinvent myself and learn new things. To be vulnerable and say, “yes I am a student and please allow me to soak up more knowledge”.

Life is a journey, it is never a destination. Whatever is happening, soon that will change, new things, unexpected, will emerge. I often laugh when I read some something where, generally an expert, implies, “well we have reached the end of this knowledge branch”, the hubris to make such a claim.

What I do know is that I am excited to learn, grow and improve. Thank you for the opportunity to share and be a part of the conversation.

God morning everyone + Happy Friday. Here is today’s thought. Sobriety gives us a new life. Better yet, sobriety gives us a new outlook on life. Be patient + let God act in his own time. Progress, not perfection. Just remember that the Creator has a master plan + that we are part of His plan. Blessings. BB

It is very hard for me to admit that I do not know. Ironically, that is the only way I can learn – to admit that I do not know. And I show up at my Al-Anon meetings with my inflated ego covering up for my complete lack of self-esteem. I am a beloved creation of my Higher Power. What more do I need?
