Analysis: The Power of Giving

Love thrives without conditions. How Al-Anon Works describes this beautiful connection. We unite through common struggles and shared goals. Safety encourages our return to this group. Freely given love heals our weary hearts. We find sanctuary in these bonds.

Action transforms our spirit. The Big Book demands daily vigilance against fear. We watch for selfishness and dishonesty. Tolerance remains our guiding code. This work lasts a lifetime. A Higher Power directs these steps. Each act reflects our dedication to others.

W. Somerset Maugham captured this truth perfectly. Giving love matters more than receiving it. Mother Teresa echoed this noble sentiment (Teresa, 1997). She served the world with boundless compassion. Wellbriety traditions support this selfless way of living. “Love becomes real when we share it” (White Bison, 2002, p. 73). We grow by offering kindness to every soul. Service opens the door to lasting peace.

(How Al-Anon Works, p. 99)

W. Somerset Maugham (1874 – 1965)

Análisis

El amor prospera sin condiciones. How Al-Anon Works describe esta hermosa conexión.

Loving with no strings attached mirrors the unconditional love God showed Humanity through what Jesus did for us…

My higher power is love and by that example my goal is to love unconditionally and without expectation. I am reminded of first Corinthians 13: Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud… And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.”

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful

The one who gives with love without expecting anything in return is the one who benefits the most

“Love is not love which alters, when it alteration finds”
    Shakespeare

There are many forms of love, yet only one pure love which is unconditional. To love with no expectation, is a reflection of my higher power’s love. To freely give with out the need for reciprocation or demand, no alteration, just pure giving love. It is a precious gift to give. It is the love that I receive from my higher power for which I am grateful.

Every time I am of service I think that is love with no strings attached. Every time I practice the 7th tradition, especially generously, I’m practicing love with no strings attached. A couple weeks ago I hugged a person at a meeting that clearly hadn’t bathed in a VERY long time. There were definitely no strings there and my mind was screaming to run the other way.

This weekend at Big Gay Sunday, felt like love with no strings attached. People sharing food they brought and being kind to one another was happening all over the place.

One large part of my recovery is honestly accepting responsibility for decisions I have made in the past. As a child I thought I had no choice but to blindly follow and accept everything my religion taught me; when I got older I could no longer abide by the teaching of my church so I left the church and did not find spirituality for many years. Today I am learning to let go and let God – as Langston Hughes wrote, “In an envelope marked personal, God wrote me a letter; in a letter marked personal, I responded.”
