THE ILLUSION OF CONTROL CAN TAKE MANY FORMS – “When we tried to control ourselves, we wound up demoralized. Even when we succeeded, it wasn’t enough to make us happy. We hid from our pain by eating … .” (Overeaters Anon., p. 5)

Analysis: The Strength in Surrender

Life eventually humbles every human soul. It Works: How and Why notes our shared vulnerability. Even years of progress offer no shield against chaos. Abraham Lincoln felt this deep weight during the war. He knelt when his own wisdom failed him. This leader sought strength from a Great Spirit.

Solitary struggles often amplify our pain. One Day at a Time suggests we release the burden. We must abandon false pride to find true relief. Wellbriety wisdom offers a path to healing. “We must return to the laws of the Creator” (White Bison, 2002, p. 14). This shift allows a Higher Power to lead.

Mahatma Gandhi also embraced this radical surrender (Gandhi, 1927). He found power in his own admitted weakness. Our fears vanish when we trust a Divine Source. Peace arrives through the door of humility.

Sometimes just thanking my God is Not Enough. When I get an overwhelming Rush of gratitude I will fall to my knees and thank him for whatever is happening at the time… sometimes words aren’t enough, and I’ll let the Holy Spirit speak for me while I’m on my knees and hands clasped…

How is everyone? Good things come to good people, and even if not immediately I know my karma in store is going to be great, because of all the good deeds I do to make life better for everyone. Prayer, and spirituality all together of different sorts has made me get to a more controlled life now, with even more room for growth.

This past year I feel I have been able to deal with some situations that I never felt I would be able to deal with before. I have been able to deal with these situations only because I have employed the tools that I have always heard about in recovery before but was never able to practice. The program really works when you work it and thanks to this program I have been able to get through this year clean and sober and with a good deal of serenity.

Good morning everyone + Happy Sunday. Here is today’s thought. Keep balance in your life. Keep God in the center of your life. There will then be peace amid the distractions of everyday living. Blessings. BB

Prayer sounds like a pretty good idea now. Its reassuring to know that old Abe felt the need from time to time as well. Knees here I come.

I often feel like the line from a movie: “Never give up! Never surrender.” I need Step One as I need water and air. I must surrender even as I hold on tightly to the thoughts and feelings that brought me to my knees. “Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy will.” Even as I am overwhelmed at my job; even as I am overwhelmed from too many commitments; even as I despair that my life can become any better; “Relieve me of the bondage of self, that I may better do Thy Will.” I ain’t in this alone.
