Analysis: The Harmony of Freedom

True liberty often looks like chaos to the untrained eye. Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions notes that groups cannot punish members. Radical freedom protects the individual from force. Yet, some observers fear this leads to total anarchy. They confuse individual choice with reckless license. Authentic liberty requires a deep respect for our neighbors.

It Works: How and Why celebrates the unique character of every group. Diversity flourishes when we allow autonomy to guide the way. We become who we choose to be without fear. This freedom creates a vibrant community of healing. It invites everyone to find their place in the circle.

William Hazlitt suggests that loving liberty means loving other people. Nelson Mandela mirrored this sentiment in his life. He stated that freedom respects the liberty of others (Mandela, 1994). This selfless path connects us directly to the Great Spirit. The Red Road to Wellbriety links freedom to community service (White Bison, 2002). Our strength grows through this spiritual connection. A Higher Power guides our steps toward collective harmony. We trade the love of power for the power of love.

“EL AMOR A LA LIBERTAD ES EL AMOR A LOS DEMÁS” – TRAD. 1

¿DEBE LA LIBERTAD CONDUCIR A LA ANARQUÍA? –

I had recently let a friend express himself to exhaustion, because he had really been going through it. I knew that he didn’t need me to fix anything, he just needed to be heard. But in hearing his story, and after I gave him space, he then turned to me and wanted to know – “truly, how are you doing on your journey right now?” and that turned into a loving and open shared experience.

As long as it’s coming from a genuine place, being nicer to others allows me the freedom to be myself without needing to feel better than anyone else. Like I don’t have to compete for funniest person in the room, or coolest person in the room, I can just be my genuine and kind self.

Kindness and support of others is service to others. Additionally what I give away without expectation always comes back to me, often in surprising and beautiful ways.

Thank you for sharing recovery with me. Grateful.

External is illusion and I have no interest or expectation to change that. Concurrently, Separation is illusion, all life is connected, interconnected and in many ways dependent on each other.

For me the Serenity prayer answers this, accept what I can’t change, change what I can had have the wisdom to discern. For which I thank my higher power.

it is only in the times when I forget this that my desire to exert my will where it has not power that feels of frustration grow.

Years ago we wrote a song called Slow Down the Ride,. It reminds me, when things are not happening at the rate or manner that I wish, I slow down the ride, get into acceptance, and remember that I do not have to carry the burden of being in charge of everything. That things are exactly the way they are supposed to be, right now, and trust.

Good morning everyone + Happy Sunday. Here is today’s thought. Try to do your part to make the world a better place to live in. Bring goodness a little nearer to the earth. Be a part of the solution of the world + not the problem. Remember, God wants spiritual fruit, NOT religious nuts. Blessings. BB

I recently had to let go of a client despite many hours of developing a working relationship. At first I felt the need to seek some type of remedy but quickly afterwards felt a relief and focus my efforts toward more available possibilities.

I tried giving advice to someone younger than me then realized they were going to make their mistakes anyway. That they have to learn in their own way. That it is their mistake to make and their lessons to be learned. I had to recognize that they are still going to make their own decisions. Although I meant well I have to let them be. And I know things will turn out okay. Or they will learn their lesson as they should.

I”ve had to admit my powerless over other people’s perceptions of me or what I think they are since those thoughts are none of my business to begin with.

It is almost as if prior to coming to 12-Step programs I was living in a false reality. It was really like rowing a boat in the ocean on an overcast day – I could not tell where the sky ended and the ocean began. I was also clueless as to how to get shore. Step 1 was the big Lighthouse that showed me the way to land (safety). At least now I knew which way was land and which was was sea. At last I perceived I could make a choice…because for the first time I knew what the choices really were.
